Fatal Accident Partially Closes Windsor's Day Hill Road

Day Hill Road remains partially closed Friday afternoon, as Windsor Police and emergency responders assess the scene of a fatal accident.

According to Police Capt. Tom LePore, the two-vehicle accident occurred around 10:30 a.m. Friday.

According to LePore, a FedEx truck was stopped in the Eastbound lane near 615 Day Hill Road when a second vehicle crashed into it from behind.

A 35-year-old white female, the driver of the second vehicle, was pronounced dead, said LePore.

The FedEx truck was unoccupied at the time of the crash. The deceased was the sole occupant of her vehicle, LePore said.

According to LePore, the reason the vehicle slammed into the FedEx truck is currently unknown, but "most of the vehicle went underneath the truck and significant damage was done to the second vehicle."

LePore said it appears the victim died on impact.

LePore added that airbags in the second vehicle did deploy and the deceased was wearing a seatbelt.

Her identity has not been released, as authorities must notify next of kin, LePore said.

The accident is under investigation, according to LePore.

The investigation will include, among other things, calculation of the vehicle's speed upon impact and FedEx's policy regarding the parking of a vehicle on a road to make a delivery.

There is no marked space for a vehicles making deliveries to park on the road; however, it is not illegal for the truck to have stopped there rather than pulling into a business' parking lot, LePore said.

"It is not illegal. We certainly discourage that type of activity, said LePore.

The speed limit is 45 miles per hour at that section of Day Hill Road, so it is assumed tr deceased may have been driving at least that fast, LePore said.
