CRIS Radio Honors Volunteers

Nearly 70 CRIS Radio volunteers were recently honored for their long-standing service at the

information featured in nearly 70 magazines for people who are blind or print-challenged due to physical,

learning, intellectual or emotional disabilities, with the dedication of nearly 350 volunteers at its broadcast

center in Windsor and four satellite studios located in Danbury, Norwich, Trumbull and West Haven. In

addition, CRIS volunteers also record children’s magazines and educational materials, including the

Common Core text exemplars, for schools serving children with special needs.

Several volunteers were recognized for celebrating milestone anniversaries. They include Steve

Parker of Newington, a CRIS volunteer for 30 years. Barbara Clark of Wethersfield and Jim Stewart of

Berlin also celebrated special anniversaries, marking 25 years of volunteer service at CRIS..

Others honored for their long-standing service include: Paul Young of Rocky Hill (20 years);

Russ Wheeler of Columbia (20); Jim Gadarowski of (15); Sandra Lewis of Colchester Newington (15);

and Charles Wynn of Columbia (15).

In addition, the following CRIS volunteers also were recognized for marking milestone

anniversaries. They are: Christine Chadsey of Newington (10); Andrea Frez of Windsor (10); James

“Larry” Howard of West Hartford (10); Luane Lange of Niantic (10); Jay Lentz of Berlin (10); and Jeff

Watts of Rocky Hill (10). Also honored were: Hal Baird of (5): Susanne Casioppo of (5); Ruth Foster of

(5); Jennifer Gaffey of Higganum (5); Henry Gutterman of Windsor (5 ) ; Earnest Johnson Jr. of

Wethersfield (5); Susan Meers of Norwich (5 ); Barbara Niccum of Stafford (5 ); Barbara Rutz of Lisbon

(5 ); Bill Rutz of Lisbon (5 ); and David Schoenewolff of Windsor (5).

Volunteers provide the voice talent for the extensive line-up of audio recordings as well as assist

with special fundraising events, such as the CRIS Radio Annual Golf Classic coming up on Sept. 11, or

shipping specially tuned radios to listeners.
