Windsor Residents Excel Academically on a National Level

(West Hartford) - A Windsor resident attending Northwest Catholic High School has been named a National Merit Semifinalist. Thienly Nguyen ’14, the daughter of Mr. Toan Nguyen and Ms. Hanh Long of Windsor, is among the top 1% of scorers among the 1.5 million juniors who took the PSAT/NMSQT exam in October 2012. Nguyen, an active member of the CT Youth Forum and her parish of St. Lawrence O’Toole in Hartford, will now continue in the competition for designation as a National Merit Finalist and for one of the Merit Scholarships that will be awarded next spring.

Several Windsor residents were also among the 42 students from Northwest Catholic who have been named AP Scholars for 2013. Nguyen, Brian Cao ’13, and Kelly Weiss ’13 were named AP Scholars. Susan Grimshaw ’13 was named an AP Scholar with Distinction.

Students must earn scores of 3 or higher on three or more Advanced Placement Exams to be named an AP Scholar. AP Scholars with Distinction must earn an average score of 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and a score of 3 or higher on five or more of the tests.
