Lew Jolly and Family Benefit
Saturday, noon - Lew Jolly has been in the ICU for a while. He has a disease called babesiosis. It's a tick born, malaria like parasite that is attacking his entire body. Jolly is the owner of Lew's Cycle and Sled, of Manchester,  that has been shut down for nearly a month. Nicole is taking as much time as possible to be by Lew's bedside and to be there for their four kids. This is going to be an extremely long road for the family and their loved ones. Rally around this family and show them support from the community. Tickets are $20 per adult and children under 12 are free. There will be raffles, food, and entertainment. All proceeds benefit the family.

Talcottville Archeology and Geology Hike

Saturday, 1 p.m. - The public is invited to a free walk on Saturday in the historic Talcottville section of Vernon. Meet in the parking lot at the Talcottville Congregational Church for a three-mile hike to see the Talcottville gorge, historic bridges and buildings, and the sites of former mills. Geologically, the walk will start out on the Portland Arkose, go over the eastern border fault into the border fault deformed zone, then into the Glastonbury Gneiss, and sand and gravel deposits. Some of the terrain is steep and bumpy, so please wear sturdy sneakers or shoes. October is archeology awareness month, and this walk will educate participants about the ancient times in the Talcottville area. Speakers include geologist Gary Robbins, from the University of Connecticut, and Jon Roe, webmaster of the Tankerhoosan and Talcottville Web sites. The hike will be held rain or shine, but extreme weather cancels.
