Windsor Student-Athletes Sign to Attend Bates, Princeton

Windsor natives Mary Deneen and Brian Poirier announced they will play sports at the next level.

Windsor natives and Northwest Cathoic students Mary Deneen and Brian Poirier announced that they will play sports at the collegiate level on January 6.

Deneen said she intends to play volleyball at Bates College, while Poirier said he will attend Princeton University and run track.

Deneen was named an all-state and all-conference performer on the volleyball court this season, in addition to her recognition as the team's most valuable player for the second year running. She also led her squad to an appearance in the state championship game.

She was inducted into the National Honor Society her junior year and volunteers at Windsor's River Street School.

Poirier was named The Hartford Courant's Runner of the Year this season, and won the individual cross country state championship in his division before taking home the top spot at the Rhode Island Invitational in December.

Accordingly, Poirier received all-New England, all-state and all-conference honors for his performance this year.

He was also inducted into the National Honor Society as a junior and volunteers in his spare time.
