Windsor Boys, Girls Dominate Class L Track Championships

Windsor's outdoor track squads recorded its third straight state championship.

Windsor is making a habit of this. Boys and Girls track ran away with the Class L state title Tuesday in Middletown, according to the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC).

According to official CIAC results, the boys racked up 124 team points, outpacing runner-up Fitch by 33.

The girls were equally successful, recording 102 team points, which was well ahead of runner-up Darien's 80.

Florida State-bound Sydnee Over led the Lady Warriors' attack, finishing first in the 400-meter and 800-meter runs and anchoring Windsor's first-place 4x400 meter relay finish.

The relay squad, which included Over, Applelonia Dawes, Courtney Kearse and freshman Annicka McDonald, recorded an impressive time of 4:03.95 in the finals.

Windsor's Melissa Wolliston contributed greatly as well, finishing first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.13 seconds.

The boys, led by Sherrod Peay, Tikuan Johnson, Brian Sappleton and Kahlin Bolden, ran a way with a number of races.

Johnson and Peay finished second and third, respectively, in the 100-meter dash, earning 14 points toward the team's total.

Sappleton and Johnson then finished first and second, repsectively, in the 200-meter dash finals, followed closely by teammate O'Shady Daron in fifth place.

Seniors Sappleton ad Kahlin Bolden then took first and second in the 400-meter dash, followed closely by teammate Montrelle Murphy in fifth.

Considering Windsor's dominance in individual races, it comes as no surprise that the Warriors were equally successful in the relays.

The team of Bolden, Johson, Julio Medina and Murphy finished first in the 4x100 relay.

Bolden was joined by Daron, Kevin Boudreau and Rajay Hinds to take home second place in the 4x400 relay.

Boudreau and HInds then joined forces with Joshua Crittenden and Tristan Enkler for a first-place finish in the 4x800 relay.
