Windsor Stays Unblemished, Rolls Past Public 46-0

Windsor posted its second shutout of the season.

In a battle of unbeatens, Windsor came out unblemished and did so in a big way. Windsor defeated Hartford Public, 46-0, Friday night, posting its second shutout of the season.

The Warriors defense, led by junior defensive end Cole Ormsby's four sacks, held Public to 75 total yards of offense.

"Everybody was pushing on the line and getting to the quarterback," said Ormsby. "The other [defensive] end was containing and we got push from our [defensive] tackle, Ben Compton and it just all came together."

Windsor (4-0, 2-0) has made everything "coming together" a habit on the defensive side of the ball through four games. Allowing only 82.4 yards per game, the Warriors have made strong defensive play their hallmark, and it was no different against Public  (3-1, 2-0) from the game's outset.

In the first twelve minutes of play, the game looked to be a contest of equally-matched squads. Both teams lost a fumble and earned minimal first downs as the first quarter ended without a score.

In the second quarter, however, Windsor's defense continued to smother Public and the Warrior's high-octane offense hit its stride, scoring three unanswered touchdowns before heading into the locker room up 20-0 at the half.

The Windsor defense spent much of the first half in the backfield, allowing Public to gain just 31 yards from scrimmage over two quarters. Much of that was due to the effort put forth by the defensive line, led by Ormsby.

"Our kids played well," Windsor coach Rob Fleeting said of his defensive line. "I believe that due to the hard work they put in, in practice and our defensive coaching staff. They really work well together."

With the line of scrimmage controlled by Windsor's front four, and a huge second quarter, offensively, Windsor's momentum was too much to handle for the visiting Owls.

The Warrior's opened up the second half with a kick return for a touchdown by Terrell Huff, which was called back for holding and a personal foul. But the return was a sign of things to come.

Windsor orchestrated a two-and-a-half minute touchdown drive that culminated with a bruising, 16-yard run by Tre Coyle.

Windsor's defense forced Public into a three-and-out, and Aaron Berardino ran back the punt for a 79-yard touchdown to put Windsor up 33-0.

Minutes later, Windsor's Mike Joseph picked off an errant Public pass and took 45-yards for the score -- the second game in a row Windsor has scored a defensive touchdown.

Windsor will travel to Simsbury next Friday.
