No. 6 Warriors Look to Improve Discipline at Bristol Central

Windsor (1-0) will travel to Bristol Central (1-0) Friday night.

Coming off a 33-0 trouncing of visiting Wethersfield last Friday, Windsor football, ranked No. 6 in the state by The Courant, will head down to face Bristol Central Friday night.

With the team's potential for success on both sides of the ball clear, aren't looking to break the mold heading into Friday's game. Instead, they are looking to improve the things they already do, said Windsor coach Rob Fleeting.

"We're tightening up on things as far as kids knowing where they need to be when they need to be there," he said Thursday after practice.

Fleeting is taking an holistic approach to fostering discipline in amongst his players, saying that he believes that his student-athletes' behavior in school will be transferred to the field.

"We really believe strongly in being better students in the school, as far as following directions... showing good manners," said Fleeting. "We feel that if those kids are showing good discipline in school, then they're going to show it out here on the field."

While the Warriors put up some impressive numbers last week (263 passing yards, scoring 33 points, holding Wethersfield to 104 total yards and recording a shutout), a lack of discipline was evident in the mental errors committed throughout the game.

While Windsor forced Wethersfield to make four turnovers, they also committed five of their own. Windsor was also penalized thirteen times for a total of 110 yards, including three personal fouls.

Correcting penalties and turnovers will be critical Friday as Windsor prepares to face a Bristol Central team (1-0) that ran over Bulkeley 34-18 in their season opener.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. on Fri., Sept. 23 at Muzzy Field in Bristol.
