Villar: I Came to Windsor to Improve School System

In Windsor Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jeffrey Villar's blog, he says he's "not interested "in elevating the needs of one group of children above those of another."

*A previous version of this article erroneously left out the word "not" when quoting Dr. Villar's statement regarding services provided to Windsor's children. It now reads to convey the superintendent is "not interested in 'elevating the needs of one group of children above those of another.'"

Windsor's Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jeffrey Villar has started a blog, and he's doing so to provide all Windsor residents, not just district parents, with information regarding the inner workings of the district and its mission of providing all Windsor's children with the best educational opportunities possible.

Villar's latest entry, posted Wed., June 19, is in direct response to public questioning of his agenda with respect to his work in the district.

"Recently, I read in the Windsor Patch a comment that really caught my attention. The author suggested that my agenda as Superintendent of Schools is to promote divisiveness. I bristled when I read the comment and began to think about why someone who doesn’t know me would make such a statement. My reflection has led me to conclude that I need to explicitly share my agenda with the public rather than allow an individual to create a public image of what they believe or want my agenda to be," wrote Villar.

The superintendent went on to explain that he came to Windsor to "make a difference in a diverse schools system. Moreover, his professional experiences have instilled in him "the belief that every child has the innate capacity to learn" and "a sense of urgency to ensure that every child regardless of race, ethnicity, or social economic status is given a high quality education."

When it comes to his agenda, Villar wrote, he's simply not interested in "elevating the needs of one group of children above those of another."

In the margins of Villar's blog are links to the district's alliance grant application, alliance grant information and a letter sent to faculty, dated June 19, 2013.
