Richardson Elected Board of Education President

Rusty Peck will no longer chair the board.

In what may have come as a surprise to many, the Windsor Board of Education broke with tradition Tuesday, voting to elect Doreen Richardson president(D).

The 6-1 vote came days after controversy over board politics and efficiency came to a head, with board member Howard Jubrey and Richardson saying that Windsor schools, under Peck's leadership, had not operated effectively, and had failed students and tax payers alike.

Neither Peck nor Jubrey were in attendance Tuesday, as Interim-Superintendent Ernest Perlini noted that both men were tending to family matters.

The sole vote of dissention came from Cristina Santos (R), who cast her vote for Peck, the highest vote-getter in the recent municipal election.

The board also voted to make board-newcomer Darleen Klase vice president.

Richard O'Reilly, who is also a newcomer to the board, was voted secretary.
