Photos: Warriors Improve to 8-0

Windsor beat Maloney 33-6 to stay unbeaten.

Having only returned to practice on Friday after a week without electricity, Windsor looked a bit rusty at times, turning the ball over and committing a series of penalties Monday night. But the Warriors overcame their own mistakes to stay unbeaten, taking care of Maloney at home, 33-6.

"As we go through the season, I expect less mistakes, and we see the same guys making the same mistakes," said Windsor Coach Rob Fleeting. "We've either got to do a better job coaching those guys up, or we've got to make some changes."

Penalties were a problem for the Warriors (8-0, 5-0 CCC II West), who were docked 50 yards on 6 penalties in the first half alone, including a personal foul.

Something has to change, said Fleeting, who's team is the only undefeated team in the division.

"We like to see that the kids are aiming for perfection," he said. "So we continue to tell the same guys the same things, and it's frustrating.

"I always try to teach them about life... In life you never know when a challenge is going to come, you have to move forward."

Moving forward, Windsor's ability to avoid mistakes and handle ups and downs will certainly be tested, particularly in the post season.

Windsor has two games left on its regular schedule — RHAM (4-3, 3-1 CCC II East) and Waterford (5-2, 2-2 ECC M).

Repititions and taking a lot of snaps will be the key to overcoming mistakes going forward, said Fleeting. "We just have to be ready," he added.

While Windsor did commit a number of mistakes Monday, they were ready, and did step up to the challenge.

After a slow first quarter that yielded no points for either team, Windsor was able to take what it could get and score in a number of ways.

Standout receiver Aaron Berardino was held scoreless for the first time this season, but attention paid to Berardino allowed other Warriors to step up and shine.

Windsor only scored one touchdown through the air Monday, scoring four touchdowns on the ground (one touchdown run by Tre Coyle and Quinn Fleeting, and two by Kymm Gordon).
