NFL's Baker Returns Home to Windsor

Clover Street fifth-grader Leonardo Sanchez tells of a recent visit he and his classmates received from Chris Baker, Washington Redskins defensive lineman and Windsor native.

The following was written by Leonardo Sanchez, a fifth-grade student at Clover Street School in Windsor.

Clover Street School was thrilled to have former student and current NFL Washington Redskins player Chris Baker visit them on Tuesday, November 12th.

He was invited to have a ‘meet and greet’ period before the regular school day started! He answered questions that either children or adults had for him such as what his position was, or his height and weight.  He plays Defensive End for the Redskins.

During his visit there was also a whole school assembly and Chris talked to all the staff and students and took time to answer more questions.  His inspiring message to the kids is to “stay in school, obey and listen to your parents and teachers, study hard and get good grades and most importantly to practice everything that you do in life, whether it’s practicing to write neatly all the way to practicing a very hard sport!”

Chris Baker also signed autographs--on paper, hats, gloves and footballs.  He even signed a framed photo of him playing in a game that is hanging in Clover’s main hallway.

Chris said that coming back to Clover brings back many great memories—from the classroom to the fields behind the school where he first played football—he really appreciated the opportunity to come ‘home’.
