Lopez Earns Fab 15 Honors

Lopez led the Lady Warriors to a win over Kolbe Cathedral on December 29.

The Lady Warriors have gotten off to a hot start, going 6-1 to kick off the 2011-12 season, and they've done so on the shoulders of a few leaders — particularly the leadership of senior guard Amanda Lopez.

Lopez earned Fab 15 honors this week, having been named on Courant.com writer Lori Riley's weekly list of top girls basketball performers for her efforts in Windsor's 48-41 win over Kolbe Cathedral on Thurs., Dec. 29.

Lopez led the Lady Warriors in scoring with 16 points, netting 10 of those points from the free-throw line. She also added 2 steals, 2 assists and 5 rebounds.

Lopez was a go-to offensive threat last season, but has emerged as a leader on both sides of the ball this season, returning with more consitency from game to game, as she is averaging just under 14 points per game this year.

She's also averaging 2.7 steals per game on a team that traditionally relies on creating "havoc" for opposing offenses, as Windsor Coach Vinnie Cianfarani likes to call it.

Windsor will travel to Glastonbury on Tues., Jan. 3.
