District Releases Qualities Sought in New Superintendent

Among other things, the district is looking for someone involved in the community.

Windsor Public Schools released the qualities and skills it is looking for in its search for a new superintendent Friday. 

In an unranked list, the district, with the assistance of search firm New England School Development Council, the district detailed duties and qualities the new chief of schools will be expected perform and possess, saying "The new Superintendent of Schools should be:"

  • Visible and involved in the schools and community and a visionary leader of schools.
  • Experienced in successfully educating students from diverse racial, ethnic and sociao-economic backgrounds.
  • An experienced administrator at the Superintendent level, with proven budget building and marketing skills and an ability to maintain and build an exceptional academic program through creative and thoughtful budget approaches and program management...
  • A superioer, thoughtful, articulate communicator.
  • A skilled, collaborative decision-maker.
  • A strong, student-centered instructional leader.
  • Understanding of the need to establish strong, positive relationships with the Board of Education, parents, school administrators, teahers and all staff.

The district also released its expetations of the new superintendent within the "first six to twelve months in the position," writing that the invidual should:

  • Build positive, effective working relationships with all stakeholder groups in the district and town.
  • Study the alignment of instruction and assessment practices, educator evaluation practices, professional development programs, curriculum initiatitves and instructional practices in light of student achievement against high twenty-first centry college and caree readiness standards...
  • Implement and develop an effective, effeicient school budget and work effectiveily within the town budget process...
