Windsor's Official Voter-Turnout Numbers Released

Windsor saw a 10 percent increase in voter participation in its municipal election, but fell short of the state median.

Just one week after a municipal election that has shaken things up on the political scene in Windsor, Secretary of State Denise Merrill has released official voter-turnout figures.

The numbers bring mixed news for Windsor.

According to Merrill, 27.09 percent of Windsor's more than 20,000 registered voters cast a ballot in the Nov. 5 election.

The figure is significantly high for a municipal election — just over 18 percent of registered voters cast a ballot in the 2011 municipal election, and fewer than 15 percent voted in the town's budget referendum this past July — however, Windsor's election participation was still lower than the state median.

122 Connecticut towns, in fact, had better voter participation than Windsor in last week's election.

In total, 5,490 names were checked off as having voted in Windsor, according to Merrill. 268 of those names voted using an absentee ballot.

The state average was 31.43 percent participation.

Bridgewater reported the highest turnout, with just over 77 percent of registered voters participating, and Hartford reported the lowest turnout, with just 5 percent of voter participation, according to Merrill.
