Windsor Launches Free Lunch Program

"Summer Sandwiches" just taking off.

In an effort to end hunger in Connecticut at the local level, the Town of Windsor has begun a free summer lunch program.

"For some families summer can be really hard," Jane Garibay, president of the town food bank, said in a statement on the organization's Web site.

For that reason, sandwiches, fruits, vegetables and healthy snacks will be made available to area youth.

The program, which runs July 8-Aug. 24, is administered by Windsor Public Schools, the Windsor Food and Fuel Bank and End Hunger Connecticut, and is made possible through federal grants.

"Anyone under 18 and their caregiver is eligible," Garibay said.
