Violation Claims Could Yield Town Council Action Monday

Claims of ethics violations, not what's listed on the town council's agenda, could attract the most attention Monday night.

The town council's agenda for Monday night's regularly scheduled meeting is chock full of important agenda items that will impact programs and organizations across town. Despite that, the ears of many will be focused on .

One day after the May 21 accusations, Mayor Don Trinks and Town Manager Peter Souza said they were , and the town would take steps to address the concerns of its citizens.

As of May 31, Souza said the handling of the claims will be completely up to the council, as the complaints were brought up during a town council meeting.

Additionally, the handling of the claims could be referred to the board of ethics should a town council member "make a written request at a town council meeting that the item go to the board of ethics for an advisory opinion," Souza added.

Two town council members — Donald Jepsen (R) and Lisa Boccia (R) — said the concerns voiced by residents should be addressed.

The claims of violations involve actions taken by council members, but go beyond the nine member governing body.

In addition to making claims of malfeasance in an attempt to win "yes" votes on the May 15 budget referendum, claims of procedural errors during the town planning and zoning commission's (TPZC) consideration of Dollar Tree's application were also levied.

TPZC Chair Anita Mips has declined to comment on the allegations. 

saying it's their duty to produce support for the budget they work to put forth.

The town council will meet at 7:30 p.m. in Town Hall Council Chambers. The meeting will be  by a 7:20 public hearing on applications submitted by Windsor non-profits and town organizations to be granted participation in the state's Neighborhood Assistance Act Tax Credit program.
