Town Officials: No Trick or Treating

Snowtober has claimed Halloween as its latest victim.

With close to 100 percent of Windsor without power, town officials are saying "No" to trick or treating.

The reason, according to the town's emergency operations center, is that the darkness, coupled with black ice created when temperatures fall tonight, will make for dangerous conditions.

Windsor's ban on the tradition may be bad news for many youngsters around town, but it doesn't mean they'll have to go without go without Halloween for 2011.

Janice Chamberlain's home on Capen Street is a Halloween hit each year, drawing crowds from throughout the region. This year will be no different. No there won't be any trick or treating Monday night, but she has postponed her festivities until November 7.

In addition to scaring patrons, Chamberlain's event raises money for Mary's Place — the Carmon-family organization that provides support for grieving children.

Temperatures are currently in the 40's and are expected to fall into the low 30's tonight.
