Taxes Due Today; There's An On-line Payment Option

Taxes on the Oct., 2010 grand list are due today.

It's July 1. Of course that means that the fourth is right around the corner and it's time to scramble in preparation for barbecues, traveling and fireworks. But it also means that Windsor residents have one month to pay taxes for property on the October 2010 grand list.

Taxes are due in full by August 1, and the Tax Collector is making it a little easier for residents to pay. Residents can now make payments on-line.

Payments can be made through the town's website or by visiting www.officialpayments.com. Residents can also pay by calling calling 1-800-272-9829 using Jurisdiction Code 1771.

Of course, payments will still be accepted in person at the Town Collector's office; however, the office does not accept credit cards, and delinquent taxes must be paid directly to the office, located in Town Hall. Payments to the office can be made by mail as well.

There are also tax payment drop-off boxes at the Windsor and Wilson Branch Libraries and L.P. Wilson.

The Tax Collector's office is open from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday. According to the Tax Collector, payments should be accompanied by a bill.

Those who have not received a bill in the mail are not exempt from payment and should contact the office at 860-285-1810 to obtain a copy.

The town's mill rate has been set at 28.03.
