Republicans Endorse Town Council, Board of Education Slate of Candidates

Three new faces are on the slate for the Board and Council.

The Windsor Republican Town Committee voted to endorse its slate of candidates for the Board of Education and Town Council 2011 races Thursday night during the committee's monthly meeting.

The slate is veteran-heavy, but there are a few new faces on the list.

Current republican members of the Board of Education who were endorsed Thursday include Minority Leader Paul Panos, Howard Jubrey and Cristina Santos.

According to Republican Town Committee members, Board of Education member David Gay has recently resigned because he is moving out of town, according to Kristin Ingram of the Republican Town Committee.

Gay came under fire during Windsor's school consolidation process for supporting the change while having sent his children to private school.

The two new names on the slate for the Board of Education are Kristin Ingram and Patricia Di Giore.

Either Ingram or Giore would look to fill Gay's spot on the Board in the fall.

The republican side of the Town Council will see fewer possible changes, as the only new name on the slate of five endorsees is Lisa Boccia. The other four names are current Council members Donald Jepsen, Ronald Eleveld, Aaron Jubrey and Michael McDonald.

The Town Committee also endorsed David Gillette and Richard Knickerbocker as candidates for constable.

The full slate of candidates was created by the Town Committee's candidate selection committee, which was comprised of Ruth Fahrbach, Davide Gillette, Karen Andrews, Violet Nahabedian and Jeffrey Ingram.

Each of the currently serving republican Board and Council members were interviewed in addition to the potential candidates.

The endorsees will not officially become candidates until July 21, according to Town Committee Chair Ruth Jeffris.
