Polls Open Tuesday for Windsor's Fourth Budget Referendum; Where to Vote

A look at budget proposal details heading into the town's fourth budget referendum of 2013.

For the fourth time in the 2013 budget season, Windsor residents will head to the polls to cast their votes.

Residents will have the opportunity to either approve or reject the town council's proposed spending plan — a $100.3 million plan representing a zero-percent budgetary tax impact.

The council came to the current proposal after a trio of budget proposals failed at referendum, forcing the council to make a number of local cuts, including education and general government funding.

The most recent proposal — a $100.7 million spending plan — represented a .54 percent tax impact, which is more than 2 percent lower than the town manager's proposed tax impact.

The council's most recent cuts include the following:

Board of Education — $200,000

Recreation and Leisure Department — $3,000

Library Service — $5,000

Public Works — $15,000

Information Services — $2,000

Administrative Services — $30,000

General Services — $180,400

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Tues., July 16. The following polling places will be used:

L.P. Wilson Community Center - District 1
J.F. Kennedy School - District 2
330 Windsor Ave. - District 3
Windsor Town Hall - District 4
Oliver Ellsworth School - District 5
