Mayor's Office: East Haven Winter Ordinances Now in Effect

Town officials are reminding residents that several ordinances are now in effect for the winter months and during snow events.

The following is a press release from the East Haven Mayor's Office.

Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr. would like to remind East Haven residents and businesses that the town has several ordinances in effect for the winter months and during snow events.

They are as follows:

From Nov. 15 to April 15

All vehicles shall be parked on off-street facilities where such off-street facilities are available.

Unless otherwise posted, vehicles shall be permitted to park only on the EVEN numbered sides of streets.

During Snow Alerts or Snowstorms

The owners of vehicles shall be required to remove their vehicles from the EVEN numbered sides of the street within 6 HOURS AFTER odd numbered sides of street has been plowed and cleared.

Any vehicles on streets posted, which instruct parking on ODD numbered sides shall be moved to the EVEN side within 6 HOURS AFTER even numbered sides of street has been plowed and cleared.

This procedure will enable the Public Services Department to properly and efficiently clear each street.

All residents and businesses must clear sidewalks of snow within 24 hours following the end of the storm.

I live on hotchkiss rd ext. just off Thompson. The corner at Thompson is never plowed out! They always leave a huge mound of snow on the corner making it impossible to navigate. Very very sloppy work. I wish somebody would read this and as a result, take a little more care as this obstruction creates a dangerous situation as you cannot navigate the turn onto either street and you can't see incoming traffic. Remember, we do pay the taxes that pay salaries and we should expect decent service. It's not like you guys are doing us a free favor!

I agree. The mayor should be ashamed of himself for putting lives at risk to save money. I happened across an accident on Mill Street yesterday morning the direct result of ice and no sanding.

Rosie, you are so right! East Haven generally does a very poor job with snow and winter clean up. It's pretty embarrassing but nobody seems to care.

And the silence from anybody responsible in this town is deafening. It's a free forum here but I guess nobody in a town capacity has the guts to respond!

Seems like you folks have a legit B----. The Town Hall has to have the phone number for Publi Works. Any citizen can call and ask for a plow and Sand. If all get on this you should get results.. they may need to be reminded that things can change next election!
