Lennon Criticizes Minimum Wage Increase

Windsor's Malvi Lennon, candidate for the district 2 State Senate seat, says raising the minimum wage will not help the thousands of Connecticut residents who are out of work.

With the legislature preparing to vote on raising the minimum wage in Connecticut, Republican candidate for the district 2 State Senate seat Malvi Lennon is urging legislator to do more to create job opportunities for those out of work.

Raising the minimum wage by $.50 "will do nothing to help the thousands of state residents who are out of work," said Lennon, adding that while the state's unemployment reportedly went down one-tenth of a point last month, jobless claims fail to reveal the state actually lost 2,700 jobs.

"Statistics show that raising the minimum wage quickens job loss, particularly in industries that use seasonal workers or employ young people," Lennon added.
