Windsor Republicans Regain School Board Majority; Democrats Retain Council Control

Board of Education President Doreen Richardson was ousted from the board as Republicans regain a majority for the first time on Windsor's school board since 1989.

For the first time in nearly a quarter century, Republicans have the majority on Windsor's board of education.

Cristina Santos led all board of education candidates in votes received, lining her up to be the board's next president.

Santos was followed by fellow Republicans Paul Panos and newcomer Melissa Rizzo Holmes for most votes received.

The biggest change Tuesday's election results brought came in the form of votes Democratic candidates received.

Current Board President Doreen Richardson received the lowest vote tally, knocking her off the board of education after serving one term as chair.

Tuesday's results will also change things on the council, although the Democrats managed to retain their majority, and Don Trinks, who was the only candidate to breach the 3,000 vote mark, will remain Windsor's Mayor.

Independent Councilwoman Lisa Boccia was ousted.

The Republican side of the council table will see three new faces alongside longtime Councilman Donald Jepsen.

Republicans John Gamache, Kenny Wilkos and Jim Govoni all won a seat on the council.
