Fifth District
Elizabeth Esty has raised three times more money than Republican opponent Andrew Roraback, according to the Hartford Courant. Esty has raised $1.59 million and loaned more than $500,000 of her own money to the campaign. Roraback raised $572,000 has of July 25.
Second District
Paul Formica (R): Formica has raised $10,000 in a recent fundraising effort and posted a Facebook shoutout today to his supporters:
"Thank you for your support! With your help we will return an independent voice to represent the Second Congressional District."
Senate
Labor Day is a prime opportunity to debate the economy, and both Linda McMahon and Chris Murphy brought up the issue of jobs.
Murphy’s campaign asked McMahon these two questions via a press release.
1. How can McMahon pretend to honor American workers after firing 10% of her employees and then turning around and taking $10 million in state tax credits designed to create jobs?
2. How can McMahon pretend to honor American workers after denying health care benefits to her employees and their families?
McMahon’s campaign said that even though Labor Day has come and gone, Murphy still has no jobs plan.
“It’s staggering that Chris Murphy continues to tour the state of Connecticut and look voters in the eye without any plan to reverse the state’s unemployment problem,” McMahon campaign manager Corry Bliss said in a press release. “When it comes to his ‘work in progress’ jobs plan, it’s time for Chris Murphy to stop talking and start doing.”
Third District
Rosa DeLauro (D): Democrats throughout the country are convening at the Democratic National Convention in North Carolina. Rosa DeLauro planned to speak on the stage on Tuesday night.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to speak at the Democratic National Convention alongside my outstanding colleagues – the House Democratic Women,” she said in an email to supporters. “Working together, we'll re-elect our President and candidates across our country that share our values. The stakes are too high in this election for any American to sit on the sidelines.”
Wayne Winsley (R): A YouTube user posted a pair of videos of Winsley talking to voters on the campaign trail.
Fourth District
Jim Himes (D): Last week, for declining home values. Himes’ campaign manager Justin Myers responded to the claims.
“Obsitnik wants to roll back protections Jim helped write to rein in risky and predatory loan practices that helped cause the housing crash, and Jim’s office has worked with over 300 constituents to fix their mortgages and save their homes. Nine months into his campaign Obsitnik, who failed to vote in six elections since registering to vote in Connecticut in 2005, is desperately hiding behind statistical data and has yet to put forward any ideas on how to improve the housing market himself. Meanwhile, Jim has been focused on fiscal accountability and moving the economy forward.”
Steve Obsitnik (R): While Obsitnik’s Facebook page is full of campaign photos and news articles pertaining to the economy, this weekend he posted a lighter story about how his college team – Navy – was trounced by Notre Dame. “Not the best way to start the season,” he wrote. Obsitnik graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis.
