Senate
Linda McMahon’s campaign filed an ethics complaint with the Office of Congressional Ethics, alleging that Chris Murphy received an overly generous home mortgage from Webster Bank. Both Murphy and the bank deny the accusations.
Politico reports that the impact of the complaint will be limited since the Office of Congressional is prohibited from acting on cases in the 60 days before an election.
Politico wrote, “the practical impact of McMahon’s complaint to the OCE is likely to be some bad headlines for Murphy rather than any significant legal problems.”

Second District
Joe Courtney (D) reports on his Facebook page that he had a successful Coordinated Canvass in Windham over the weekend. Courtney also visited the Shoreline League of Democratic Women Campaign Kick-off in Old Saybrook Saturday.
Paul Formica (R) competed Sunday in the Arthur Murray Dance Competition at Ocean Beach in New London, a day after "completing five pullups" at the U.S. Marine Corps booth at the Ledyard Fair, according to his Facebook page.
Third District
Rosa DeLauro (D) is a critic of U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan’s budgetary plan. Before Ryan became the vice presidential nominee, DeLauro addressed Congress earlier this year to say why she thinks the budget proposal doesn’t work. The video is on YouTube.
Wayne Winsley (R) will be joined by state Sen. John McKinney, Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton and other prominent Republicans for a “Stand Up for a Change” comedy event at the Palace Theater in Danbury on Sept. 22. The fundraiser begins at 7:30 p.m.
Fourth District
Jim Himes (D): In an email to supporters, Himes detailed his exploits at an oyster-eating contest at Norwalk’s Oyster Festival. He didn’t win the competition, but he reflected on the importance of the Long Island Sound and the jobs that rely on the estuary.
“As your Representative, I know how important those jobs are, and when I spend a day at the beach with my family or go clamming in the tidal waters, it makes it crystal clear to me that we must be vigilant protecting the Sound,” Himes said. “Real environmental stewardship provides a greater quality of life for all of us. It also protects an historic and important industry in our part of the country.”
Steve Obsitnik (R): The was a downer, with slow economic growth and high unemployment. Obsitnik released a statement criticizing Democrats for the 43rd consecutive month with unemployment higher than 8 percent.
"Jim Himes and the Democrats gaveled open their convention as our nation’s debt topped $16 trillion and came to a close as we hit the 43rd straight month of unemployment above 8 percent," Obsitnik said. "Our nation’s chronically high unemployment, skyrocketing debt and anemic economic growth must be reversed.”
Fifth District
Elizabeth Esty (D): The Esty campaign is criticizing Roraback on women’s rights and a planned visit of vice presidential hopeful Paul Ryan, reports The Record-Journal.
Andrew Roraback (R) has an ally in Mark Greenberg, the socially conservative candidate who lost the primary to Roraback. The Register Citizen reports that Greenberg has been reaching out to supporters on Roraback’s behalf despite their differences.
