Auditorium Overhaul Passes at Referendum

Windsor's first Saturday referendum yielded a vote in favor of funding the reconstruction of Windsor High's roof.

The auditorium sustained significant damage in February 2011 when partially welded parts of the structure failed under the weight of a record snowfall.

The referendum topic was expected to pass due to the fact that the high school is in need of the repairs, and the town expects to be reimbursed $2.3 million of the $2.5 million project by Travelers Insurance.

The referendum, council members said in February, was merely a formality, given the amount of money need to pay for repairs upfront.

According to WFSB, just under 650 people voted, with about of those votes 40 being against the measure.

The vote, which would normally have been held on a Tuesday, was moved to Saturday and limited to one open polling place to save the town money and making the referendum more accessible to those with busy schedules during the week.

The auditorium is expected to be completed by the new year.
