Windsor PD: Gunshot Fired in Taxi Robbery

Windsor police say Laron Frank pulled a gun on a cab driver while traveling to Windsor.

A Hartford man fired a gunshot inside a cab in Windsor and then he demanded that the driver give him money, Windsor police said Thursday.

Laron Frank, 34, was picked up by the cab in Hartford with a destination in Windsor, but he pulled a gun out of his pocket en route and demanded cash, police say.

According to Windsor Police Captain Tom LePore, the driver was able to close the cab's glass partition before Frank fired a shot inside the motor vehicle.

The shot did not hit the driver, police said.

The cab driver continued to drive with Frank in the back seat and called his livery headquarters in an attempt to relay a call for police assistance, police said.

The driver eventually stopped at the intersection of Route 218 and I-291 in Windsor. Route 218 runs between Blue Hills Avenue and Windsor Avenue.

According police, Frank exited the vehicle when it stopped on Route 218, and was apprehended by police nearby 45 minutes after the incident was reported.

The gun was recovered within the vicinity and Frank was arraigned in Enfield Superior Court Thursday morning, police said.

Frank was held on $500,000 bond and charged with first-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny, reckless endangerment, unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
