Windsor Doctor Acquitted of Most Serious Sex Charge

Dr. Edwin Njoku, who ran a satellite office on Poquonock Avenue in Windsor, was acquitted of first-degree sexual assault, but convicted on multiple lesser charges.

Dr. Edwin Njoku, the East Hartford doctor charged with sexually assaulting multiple patients, was found not guilty of first-degree sexual assault, according NBC Connecticut.

Njoku ran a satellite office on Poquonock Avenue, where he was taken into custody by authorities in February. That office was closed in the months following his arrest, and is currently on the market.

While a jury acquitted Njoku on the most serious crime he faced, the doctor was found guilty of fourth-degree sexual assault and tampering with a witness, NBC reports.

In February, East Hartford Police responded to Hartford Hospital for, what they called, "a late reported complaint" made by an adult female patient of Njoku's.

The victim, who took the stand during Njoku's trial, told police he forced sexual intercourse against her will while in an examination room. The complaint came in addition to "an earlier, less serious, sexual assault incident with Dr. Njoku on an earlier occasion," police said.

Njoku, police added, contacted the patient upon learning about the complaint to get her to deny her statements to police.

No complaints against the doctor came from his Windsor office, Windsor Police said.
