Updated: Water Main Breaks in Windsor Center

Union Street was lined with utility trucks Thursday morning as water shot into the sky.

Update; 12:05 p.m.

According to Kevin Farley of the Union Street Tavern, the water main break was caused by workers accessing the sewage system on Union Street.

Businesses in the immediate area have maintained water service, as the water main, Farley said, supplied an old pump station behind Union Street.

Elizabeth Plant, chef and co-owner of Whistle Stop Cafe, said she is currently trying to refrain from using the water as she doesn't want to jeopardize water quality as workers who were on the scene late Thursday morning tend to the broken water main and address sewage issues.

According to Plant, the health department is expected to give her the green light when all issues have been resolved.

Plant said she was told it could take from 45 minutes to a few hours to resolve the issues.

Original Story

A water main broke on Union Street Thursday morning, sending water shooting upward, and creating a rainbow in the morning sky.

Union Street, a side street off of Rt. 159, was still open to traffic as of 9:30 a.m.

Utility workers on the scene said they are awaiting the arrival of Metropolitan District Commission workers, who will turn off water to the immediate area.

The location of the main break is in front of the Union Street Tavern.
