Updated: Windsor Volunteer Firefighter Dies

A veteran Windsor firefighter died in the line of duty late Monday after responding to a call at a rehabilitation center.

Windsor Volunteer Firefighter Robert Dean Watts, 50, died Monday night after responding to a call at the Windsor Rehabilitation Center.

Watts, who has been with the department for nearly a decade, collapsed while working a hydrant to supply water to the scene, accoring to information posted by the U.S. Fire Administration.

Emergency personnel applied CPR methods and Watts was taken to the St. Francis Medical Center in Hartford by Windsor ambulance crews, according to the release.

Watts "passed away from a cause still to be determined," according to the release.

Watts is a former Manchester resident and member of that town's fire department, according to an article on the Hartford Courant's Web site.

A Windsor firefighter died while responding to an emergency call for service at the Windsor Rehabilitation Center on Poquonock Avenue, Fox CT reported late last night.

The death of the firefighter was confirmed by Fire Chief Bill Lewis, but identification has been withheld pending notification of family members, the news station reported.

According to Fox, the firefighter collapsed at the scene and was taken to St. Francis Hospital.

Windsor Police were unavailable for comment late Monday night.
