Rocha Gets Probation in Bear Shooting Case

John G. Rocha was placed on accelerated rehabilitation in court, Tuesday.

Poquonock resident John G. Rocha has been placed on accelerated rehabilitation for a sixth-month period, according to Courant.com.

According to the state judicial website, Rocha requested the special probation program after having been and negligent hunting following an incident during which he allegedly shot and killed a bear in his back yard in January.

If his probation period is completed, the 82-year-old will have the charges dismissed in September, Courant.com reported.

Accelerated rehabilitation is a program under which an individual found guilty of a crime receives probation in lieu of jail time, and charges are dismissed upon satisfactory completion of the probation period.

Rocha is scheduled to appear in next in Enfield Superior Court on Sept. 7.
