Explosion Knocks Out Power in Windsor Center

CL&P is currently on the scene and making repairs.

Emergency units responded to a reported explosion at the intersection of Central and Mechanic Streets between Central Street antiques and the Windsor Art Center, Wednesday afternoon.

The explosion caused a power outage to the immediate area.

According to Windsor Police, the explosion occured beneath a manhole at the intersection. Windsor Volunteer Firefighters and Police responded to the scene.

The cause of the explosion was a failed cable beneath the manhole, according to CL&P workers on the scene.

What caused the cable failure is not known, they said.

There was no physical damage caused to nearby properties.

No injuries were reported.

CL&P workers are still on the scene as of 4 p.m., and working to restore power to the area.

Yankee Gas workers are also on the scene checking the status of gas lines that runs underneath the road.

According to CL&P's outage map, there are 176 customers in Windsor without power as of 4:30 p.m.
