1. Yes, it's summer, but that doesn't mean the kids get to stash away the reading material for the next couple of months. Instead, Windsor Public Library and the Wilson Branch Library are providing Windsor students and families with a fun-filled summer-reading program that kicks off today. And they're planning to get things started in style.
2. From 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., the libraries will host the Summer Reading Kickoff Carnival, complete with "games, food and fun" for families with children under the age of twelve. The them is "One World, Many Stories."
3. No need to worry about the weather. In the event of rain, the carnival will be held inside. Pre-K to grade 2 children will meet from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Grades 3 to 6 will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Call 860-285-1914 or 860-247-8960 for more information about this free event.
4. On this day in history, 2009, "The King of Pop," Michael Jackson died at the age of 50. His death was ruled a homicide by the Los Angeles Coroner's Office.
5. It looks like there's a great chance Windsor's public pools will open and remain opened throughout the day. There is only a 30-percent chance of rain today, and an anticipated high of 76ºF. The chance of showers will remain low tonight as temperatures dip into the low 60's, according to National Weather Service reports.
