Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters Staff Member Glenn Fields Awarded At Men Of Color Event

On a recent late summer evening, Bloomfield resident Glenn Fields was recognized along with ninety-nine other honorees at the One Hundred Men of Color Black Tie Gala. The award event, held at the Connecticut Science Center, celebrated the achievements of men of color - from Springfield to Stamford - in business, education, entrepreneurship, government and service, and the dramatic impact they've had on the lives of people throughout their communities.

Glenn Fields has spent the past forty years working to improve the lives of disadvantaged children. He's held positions at Hartford Neighborhood Centers, the Greater Hartford Chamber of Commerce, Connecticut Training Centers, the City of Hartford and The Children's Place.

In 2008, Fields joined Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters, Connecticut's premier youth mentoring organization, as an Enrollment Coordinator. Drawing on Big Brothers Big Sisters' time-tested methods as well as his extensive youth services experience, Fields creates match relationships designed to have a significant life-enhancing impact on all participants - local children in need, the families of these children, and inspirational adult mentors. In the five years he's been at Nutmeg, Fields has been the catalyst for more than 500 mentor-mentee matches. Currently, his main focus is on recruiting mentors for at-risk children in two of Nutmeg's newer programs: the Juvenile Justice Mentoring Program and the Achievement First Hartford Program.

"Being recognized along with so many accomplished individuals at the One Hundred Men of Color event was an amazing and humbling experience," said Fields. "But, as appreciative as I am of the honor, my real reward comes when I see that my efforts have been instrumental in helping a child transition from a troubled place in his or her life to a better place, one that offers much greater promise. And I'm grateful that my job at Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters offers me the opportunity of witnessing this type of positive outcome on a regular basis."

"We're extremely proud of Glenn Fields, and truly happy that he has won this much-deserved recognition at the One Hundred Men of Color event," said Andy Fleischmann, President and CEO of Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters. "It's particularly satisfying that others have noticed something all of Glenn's friends and coworkers at Nutmeg have known for a long time: Glenn is passionately committed to helping children in need by introducing caring mentors into their lives - mentors who inspire those children to follow their dreams, fulfill their potential, and their highest aspirations."
