Obituary: Rosemary Allison Thorington, 69, of Windsor

Rosemary Allison Thorington, 69, of Windsor, CT, beloved wife of 46 years to Trevor Thorington, passed away peacefully with her husband at her bedside, on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT.

Rosemary was born on February 5, 1945, in Barataria, Trinidad, to the late Duncan Gay Morris and Carmen (Porte) Morris. She grew up in Barbados, West Indies until 1968 when she relocated to the United States to join her husband.

Rosemary was educated at Miss Barrow Private School and Lynch's Secondary School in Barbados. After graduation, she taught at Pine Primary (where she met Trevor) and Brittons Hill Elementary Schools in Barbados, as well as working in the Barbados Income Tax Department and a couple corporate entities.

After moving to the United States, Rosemary studied business administration at the University of Hartford for two years. Rosemary lived in Massachusetts, Florida and Connecticut. During these years, Rosemary and Trevor raised three children and with them shared her love of travel, gardening, square dancing, lawn tennis and softball.

Rosemary worked at the Travelers Insurance Company for 17 years in the Group Experience Rating and Finance Departments. In addition, she ran a small family print shop business in Central Florida and was well known in the business community in that area. She was also a licensed real estate agent in Florida.

Rosemary was an active member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Windsor, Connecticut, where she served as a Deaconess and a member of the Church Flower Committee. She was a born-again Christian who did not wear her religion on her sleeves but lived her faith daily. She was a blessed but very humble angel who taught her husband and children to always keep their feet on the ground.

To cherish her memories, Rosemary leaves her beloved husband Trevor, her son Terrence Thorington of Tokyo, Japan; her daughters Sonja Howe (Christopher) and Allison Shepherd, all of Windsor; her grandchildren Tesla and Soleil Howe; her mother Carmen Morris, and her siblings Juanita Springer of Freeport, Bahamas, Duncan Morris (Dionne) of Bloomfield, David Morris of Barbados, Lynne Catlyn of Barbados, Ian Morris of Windsor Locks, Paula Burgess (Bruce) of Windsor, Gillian King (Michael) of Florida and Nigel Morris (Annette) of Windsor Locks; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Her family will receive friends on Thursday, May 22, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave, Windsor, with a prayer service taking place ay 7 p.m.

The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, May 23, at the Hopewell Baptist Church, 280 Windsor Ave., Windsor, with viewing to be held prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m.

Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery, Bloomfield.

The family would like to sincerely thank the staff, nurses and surgeons at Memorial Sloan Kettering, Issels Integrative Oncology in Santa Barbara, Calif., and the Angeles Hospital inMexico.
