Obituary: Eleanor M. Word, 88 of Windsor

Eleanor M. Word, 88 of Windsor, wife of the late Clifford J. Word, died Monday, May 26, 2014.

Born in Providence, R.I. on January 10, 1926, she was the daughter of the late William and Gertrude (Crumby) Maguire.

Her work was mostly in insurance where she served in many capacities, as well as in sales for United Air Lines and in real estate. She belonged to the First Church in Windsor, and was a member and past president of the First Church Women's Club, also a member of the Booklovers of the First Church, and served on a number of church boards.

She tutored reading for the Literacy Volunteers and also at Clover Street School and volunteered for many years for Meals on Wheels. She is survived by two sons Michael J. Word and his partner Brian Rocheleau of Enfield and Steven J. Word and his wife Beverly Arcaro of West Hartford; a grandson Phillip P. Word and his wife Tracy of Agawam, Mass.; and a niece and nephew. Kathryn Word of Norwalk and Matthew Word and his wife Megan of Anthem, AZ.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 7, at 1 p.m. at the First Church in Windsor, 107 Palisado Avenue, Windsor. A reception will follow the service in Nelson Hall. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of First Church. The Carmon Windsor Funeral Home is caring for the arrangements.
