Smoke, Mirrors, and .....

No layoffs, 9% pay increase over five years, longevity bonuses

The "agreement" reached by the Malloy administration and union negotiator has been kept under wraps. We have read a "summary", a signed “summary of the framework", but not even union members have seen the "real deal". Based on the conversations taking place in the social media like Facebook and Tweeter opinions about the “deal" run the gamut. Most seen very skeptical about the "savings" trumpeted by the administration, still trying to keep an open mind while holding expectations in check.

Brian Lockhart of Political Capitol spoke with State Rep. Zeke Zalaski, about the deal. Zalaski’s co-chairman of the legislature’s labor committee. He’s also president of United Auto Workers Local 712, the union representing his co-workers at Associated Spring in Bristol.

“I think it’s a good deal. My members would jump through hoops to get that agreement,” Zalaski said. http://blog.ctnews.com/politicalcapitol/2011/05/17/private-sector-union-....

A very revealing statement from Zalaski as even a staunch union member like him admits that the reality for private sector employees is much direr than for the public sector workers.  As for us the taxpayers, looks like we will see more of the same, smoke, mirrors and a huge bill at the end of the day.
