Public Safety and Jobs should not be use to play political games.

Ecert, Gun Control, and political charades.

Behind Closed Doors Republicans and Democrats "negotiate" your rigts away. Below is the email I sent to Representative Cafero and Senator McKinney.

To Representative Cafero and Senator McKinney:

For the past several weeks both of you conspired behind closed doors with the Democrat leadership ultimately drafting the most intrusive, restrictive gun control bill in the country. While you have every right to promote meaningless pieces of legislation, the Ecert process on the gun bill is a slap on the face to every citizen of this state.

As seasoned career politicians, you know that the ONLY reason Republicans were brought into the gun debate was to give Democrats cover for voting in favor of Gun Control. Allowing Republicans in the tent and calling this travesty “bi-partisan” renders Gun Control a non-issue next election.

Playing along with the charade works well for you too. You get want you want, and you can go on pretending that as the “minority” party you are powerless when it comes to stopping specific pieces of legislation. What is more you can promote the misconception that you helped transformed a horrible bill into a bad bill by “compromising”. in the past  similar arrangements have proven effective and   it would probably work again except for the fact that on gun control Republicans do have power even without numbers. Just vote “NO” on Ecert.

Every so-called “positive” lumped into to the Gun Control bill should, could, and would become law on its own going through the normal legislative process, leaving Democrats no other option than table gun control, or pass it down party line. The latter, would make some of their folks vulnerable next election. Therefore, I bet the choice would be the former. So for once Republicans do HAVE the POWER. What you lack now is the political will.

However, just like passing gun control with only Democrat votes renders Democrats vulnerable, going along with your plan leaves Republicans vulnerable. You are leading your respective caucuses down the path of political suicide. The amendment to the Early Release bill will not be enough to save them. In fact, it is so minuscule that it will have little to no effect. The “cover” you are offering them leaves their neck exposed to thevoters.

Larry, John, many of us are committed to thwarting the election/re-election of ANY Republican voting in favor of gun control. Ousting he/she will be our sole focus and we will do whatever it takes. Even if it means we end with a general assembly that is 100% democrat controlled. I hope you reconsider.

PS: After sending the email, I learned an aide to one of the
legislators deleted the message without passing it on. Hence, I turned to the
Hartford Courant.

Mr. Keating

Below is the email I sent to Representative Cafero and Senator McKinney on the gun control bill. Unfortunately, I was notified that an aide deleted the emails I have always believed that in America, we have Freedom of Speech. I also thought Republicans are the party of personal freedom. I guess I was wrong on both counts.

Hence, I appeal to the Courant to help me communicate with the Republican leadership in Hartford. I am embarrassed by having to do this but my OWN PARTY leaves me no other choice. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation. If you have any questions please call me -
