A Willfull Attack On Our Safety and Well-Being

Yesterday, our legislators in Hartford passed HB 6650 “AN ACT IMPLEMENTING THE PROVISIONS OF THE BUDGET …” (Vote Tally http://www.cga.ct.gov/2011/VOTE/H/2011HV-00215-R00HB06650-HV.htm). This particular bill contributes to the “savings” included in the Malloy budget approved by the legislature. 

 Unfortunately, our Democrat controlled Legislature and Governor’s office is putting “SAVINGS” ahead of “SAFETY”  whereby releasing violent criminals from prison early (retroactive to).  After the Cheshire massacre, do we want to send dangerous individuals back into our communities that much sooner  than we have to by law?

Even Majority Leader Brendan Sharkey, D-Hamden, said, “When that rapist gets out of jail he will rape again unless he receives some kind of treatment for his condition.” http://www.ctnewsjunkie.com/ctnj.php/archives/entry/house_re-passes_early_release_for_inmates/. 

So now, rapists can be rehabilitated. If that is the case, why are we not doing a better job of rehabilitating them?

The truth is that under this bill, only those convicted of murder, capital felony, felony murder, arson murder, aggravated sexual assault in the first degree, and home invasion might serve their full sentence.

Everyone else including pedophiles, sex predators and people convicted for manslaughter receive a get “out of jail free” card for as along as while incarcerated he/she does not rape, kill, or severely injury a guard or fellow inmate . 

The passage of this bill is about much more than just beign soft on crime.  It is an outrage, a willfull attack on the safety and well-being of every woman and child in our state.

It is reprehensible that our representatives in Hartford voted in favor of it.
