The Real Kevin McCann

Probate Judge Candidate Kevin McCann sets the record straight on the real nature of his practice and experience.

I am Kevin McCann, and I would like to be your next Probate Judge.

Up until now, I have not responded to the false stories and rumors posted by others about me and my professional career. It is time to set the record straight.

Like all of the candidates, I am an attorney, but unlike the others, I do not do divorces, or bankruptcies, or real estate closings; I do estate and probate work, and lawyers in the Hartford area have given me the highest ratings for expertise and ethics in this area of the law.

For over two decades, I have represented individuals in virtually every type of probate matter. Young and old, middle class and needy, able bodied and disabled in mind and body, my clients have come from all walks of life. I frequently provide pro bono (no charge) legal services to needy clients, and currently have two such cases. For years, I served on the Pro Bono Committee of the Connecticut Bar Association, working on ways to make free legal services even more available to people in need.

I frequently take phone calls from hospitals and nursing homes in the middle of the night to assist my clients and wards. I have made visits to the hospital on Thanksgiving, and to prison on Christmas Eve. I have moved abused women into safe apartments, and had my life threatened by an abuser. There is hardly a type of probate issue I have not seen.

Before focussing exclusively on probate, I had hundreds of hearings and trials throughout Connecticut. I have won cases on evidentiary matters in the CT Appellate Court and in the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals, considered one of the most influential courts in the United States. As Chairman of a Planning & Zoning Commission, I presided over very contentious hearings, applying the same standards of evidence as apply in the Probate Court. I am fully versed and experienced in hearing and deciding evidentiary matters.

For many years, clients and judges have entrusted me in the position of Executor, Conservator, Health Care Agent, Guardian, and Attorney-in-Fact. I was a lecturer for the CT Probate Assembly, teaching new probate judges (including one of my opponents). Judges and attorneys have sought my counsel and advice on thorny probate issues.

I help people in their greatest need. That is why I switched my practice to probate 22 years ago. The Probate Court is all about serving people and helping them through crises and tragedy in a compassionate and reassuring manner. That is the kind of Probate Judge I will be, if you elect me.

Sincerely,

Kevin McCann
