WIN-TV's Senior Voice: A Program made for Seniors

Windsor seniors have a voice in a program designed especially for them on WIN-TV.  The program can be seen on Comcast’s Channel 5, 95 and Channel 99 on UVerse. Broadcast times in July, August and September will be Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.

The name of the program is Senior Voice. It addresses subjects of special interest to its viewers, as selected and taped by seniors. For example, a program about seniors and their medications will be aired throughout July. Faculty members from the University of Connecticut and St. Joseph’s schools of pharmacy are guests.

Proper nutrition for seniors will be a subject of programs throughout August. Registered dietitians from Hartford Hospital and Enfield’s Shop Rite supermarket are the guests. So are representatives of CRT, the company responsible for the meals at the Windsor Senior Center.

The first week of September will feature a repeat showing of Windsor resident Krysia Jopek, discussing her book, “Maps and Shadows,” a novel based on the experiences of her family during World War II. The following weeks of September will present a three-part program on how to write memoirs. Gunter David, award winning journalist and published writer, will be the speaker.

Senior Voice is planned by seniors. “No television experience is necessary and no technical knowledge is needed,” says Carol Hartman, program director. “Ours is a fun meeting, where ideas for future programs are discussed.” Planning group members occasionally appear on the program and learn to work behind the camera. The station is located at the Windsor Senior Center, 599 Matianuck Ave., Windsor. The next planning meeting will be on Wednesday, September 18, at 10:00 am. Telephone number is 860 688 2626.
