Supporting our Troops and Remembering Jack O'Shea

Windsor resident Jack O’Shea was a true supporter of the WIN-TV community service project, “SEND Hometown Windsor to the Troops”. The purpose of this project is to send bits of Windsor and basic necessities to Windsor soldiers serving in War Zones.

A World War II veteran, O’Shea served his country in any way possible. At a Memorial Day Parade held in Windsor, Jack met soldier Matt Cookson who had just returned from basic training and was soon headed to Afghanistan. Jack and his family decided to adopt Matt as their soldier for the SEND Windsor to the Troops project.

Even after Matt returned home for good, Jack and his wife Agnes continued to adopt soldiers, showing up every second Saturday of the month with a new package to send. Despite Jack’s passing this June, his family plans to continue his tradition. His daughters Susan and Judy have said they will keep adopting soldiers and provide items for the packages.
