Is Free Speech Dead in Windsor?

Are the Democrats on the Town Council for freedom of Speech only when they agree with what and how it is said?

On Monday, the town council held a vote to reject Malvi Lennon's request for appointement to the towns Insurance Commission.  The vote was split along party lines with 5 Democrats voting no and 4 Republicans voting yes.  What was unusual about this was that it has never happened before.

Usually it is understood that each party votes in favor of the other's selection.  Apparently the Democrats have decided that they are no longer going to honor this long tradition because of Malvi's use of free speech.

Let me make this clear: I am not defending Malvi because she is a Republican. Malvi has written articles about me that I disagreed with because of issues that I felt she was not aware of.  Having said that, I believe that the reason that the Democrats gave for not voting for her is an assault on not only her rights as an American citizen, but sends a clear message as to their opinion of others they disagree with.

Their reasons for not voting for her are out of line and I believe a violation of her civil rights.  Has Malvi migrated to this county to escape the bonds of Cuba's dictator only to find similar oppressions in this country?  To deny her a position because you disagree with how she makes a statement in my opinion is criminal.  It shows the arrogance of the Democratic Party in this town and how they are unwilling to listen to the voices of others that want to contribute to the welfare of our community.

I would hope that our community is not being led by elitists who believe that there are some people with fewer rights because they disagree with them.  They show that attitude in their unwillingness to listen to others on the Council who may have ideas or opinions that are worthy of debate, discussion or consideration.

I would hope that the concerned voters of this town would go to Malvi's defense because someday it may be you or your child that suffers similar discrimination at the hands of people who believe they are able to punish people who do not share their views.  Remember that once famous saying: "I do not agree sir with what you say; however, I will defend to the death your right to say it".

The Democrat leaders in this town have shown their true color and stepped over the line.
