Windsor's 'Joe the Barber' Back in Bushnell Park

A day after being ousted from Bushnell Park, the mayor of Hartford has given Anthony Cymerys permission to continue giving free haircuts to the homeless.

A retired Windsor businessman who has been giving free haircuts to the homeless in exchange for hugs, has been welcomed back to Bushnell Park, a day after city officials asked him to leave.

For years, Anthony "Joe the Barber" Cymerys has been providing free haircuts in the park for those in need, but was ousted Wednesday amid concerns that he was not a licensed barber, according to a WFSB report.

No more than 24 hours later, Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra issued a release granting Cymerys "a special dispensation in light of his numerous years of charitable work to the city of Hartford and wishes for him to continue his great and generous work in Bushnell Park," according to a Hartford Courant report.
