Marlon James' Message: What is Good for the White Student is Bad for the Black Student

This is the 5th posting that I did after reading the report.

Page 7 of the MJLU report begins with what must be Marlon James' favorite quotation, "The same educational process which inspires and stimulates [the White student] with the thought that he is everything and has accomplished everything worthwhile, depresses and crushes at the same time the spark of genius in the [Black student] by making him feel that his race does not amount to much and never will measure up to the standards of other peoples.   Carter G. Woodson, 1933."  ........... At page 24, he states, "If not redressed, neither learning nor teaching in Windsor High School will spark the innate genius in every learner, and the Districts' new mission will conform more closely to Woodson's prophetic words:"

Avon Lady August 29, 2013 at 05:27 PM Is the quote from 1933? If this quote is someone from back then I have to ask What does a quote from 1933 have to do with 2013 & the here & now when we have a Black President & many Black CEOs & even a Black TV Station that used to be Black Owned? 1 Recommend Flag as Inappropriate Gen August 30, 2013 at 11:39 AM It's relevant due to the fact that what was occurring in 1933 in regards to education of the minority student still occurs in 2013- while it may be less overt. Although this posting generated no follow on comments, I view it as the most important posting or comment that I have ever made in Patch land (and I have made quite a few of them).
