Shoreline Arts Alliance Offers FREE Performance of The Reluctant Dragon
In collaboration with Shakesperience Productions, Inc. and the
Blackstone Memorial Library, Shoreline Arts Alliance will be presenting a
free performance of the Reluctant Dragon performed by actors from the
Shakesperience company. The performance is August 8 at 10AM at the Blackstone Library in Branford. All are welcome.
Shakesperience
was founded in 1996 by Emily Mattina and Jeffrey Lapham, with a mission
to educate and inspire students, families, and theater professionals
through the arts. The non-profit organization has been contracted by
the Shoreline Arts Alliance for this summer's Shakespeare on the
Shoreline program, including this performance and the main stage
production of King Lear, August 6-10 on the Guilford Green.
The
Reluctant Dragon tells the story of a shepherd girl who races against
time and opinion to protect and defend her dragon friend from other
villagers, St. George, and certain destruction. A giant set of
Cuisenaire rods forms the backdrop for costumes inspired by the art of
Rene Magritte as this production highlights themes of stereotype and
prejudice encapsulated in environmental sustainability.
