Autism is a complex developmental disability that is the result of a
neurological disorder that affects the brain's functioning. It typically
appears during the first two years of life and impacts development in the areas of social interaction and communication skills.
CTVV
host, Susan Regan recently interviewed Donna Swanson, Founder and
Executive Director of Focus Center for Autism in Canton, CT; two of the
young people in the program, a parent of an autistic son and a Focus
Center board member to gain some insight into this often misdiagnosed
condition.
There is no cure for Autism, but those affected can
achieve significant improvement through behavioral and specialized
developmental programs, targeted social skills support, speech therapy and adaptive skills education.
The
Focus Center provides a unique and clinical approach to assisting both
the attendees and their families to realize the most successful outcomes
to leading a fulfilling and productive quality of life.
