A Yes Vote for Windsor

On Tuesday, May 13, Windsor voters will go to the polls to vote on the budget.  And I hope the majority of those voters will vote Yes to approve that budget.  The Town Council did vote unanimously, 9-0, to move the budget forward to the voters.  Impressive enough, but what is even more impressive is what this budget will do for our town and it's residents.
Under this proposed budget, certain services removed from prior budgets -- street repaving, sidewalk repair, open space funding, safety services -- are to be restored. Tax relief for the elderly and the disabled will be increased.  The five year phase-in of the October 2008 property revaluation is now complete. The next mandated revaluation is not due until October 2018 which would impact the FY 2019 – 2020 tax rate.  And yet, along with the return of these items and the end of reval, there will be some tax relief for many homeowners.  63% of homeowners will see no increase in their property taxes, and in a number of cases, property owners will actually see a decrease.  To see how this budget would affect your taxes, go to the  town's website and click on the tax calculator and put in your street number and street name (or anyone else's for that matter), and see your results.
On the school side, we have a new superintendent.  I hope that we can approve this budget to let him know that the town supports his efforts and that of the Board to provide the quality educational experiences our students deserve.
And so, whether you are Democrat, Republican, Independent, Unaffiliated, Libertarian, or Contrarian, I hope you will vote Yes for Windsor next Tuesday.
