Storm Debris Pick-Up Update:

Windsor Public Works crews will be picking up brush from the curb.  We encourage you to bring it to the curb as soon as possible to allow us to start the pick-up process.

Please follow these guidelines:

  • Brush placed in front of your home should not block the sidewalk or hang into the road.  If your debris is too large to be safely placed at the curb, place in your front yard as near to the sidewalk as you can.
  • Arrange brush so it does not block the sidewalks or hang in the road.
  • Residents are encouraged to help Public Works by removing their own debris or hiring a contractor to do so and bring the debris to the landfill - free of charge.
  • Leaf piles will not be picked up by the Public Works crews.  Leaves should be placed in paper bags and placed at your curb on the same day as trash pick-up on your street and they will be picked up by Windsor Sanitation.
  • Do not drag or place debris in brooks near your property.  Keep fire hydrants clear at the curb.

You can dispose of storm debris free of charge at the landfill.  Extended Hours of Operation: Monday through Saturday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.  *The landfill will be open on Veteran's Day.

Election:

  • The November 8, 2011 is planned to be held as scheduled. All Windsor polling places will be open from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
  • Voter Registration for the upcoming November 8th Municipal Election will be extended until Monday, November 7th until 12 noon.  In addition, there will be a limited registration session from 12 noon to 5:00 PM for those that meet qualifications as to age, citizenship or residence that was attained since October 25th.
  • Make sure your home electrical equipment is ready for reconnection. Learn more here.
  • Most of your electrical appliances should be turned off prior to having the power restored.  Leave some lights on as a sign you have power restored.  Turn on one appliance at a time until they are all on.
  • If you notice any of your appliances that are not working call an electrician to test the circuits, there may have been damage to your breakers in the electrical panel.
  • If power returns to the house on either side of you and you still do not have power, call CL&P at 800-286-2000.

Fire Marshal's Update:

CO Detectors:

The regional distribution point for CO detectors is South Windsor High School.  You can pick up CO detectors and batteries there or call the Town of Windsor Fire Marshal's Office at 860-285-1971.

  • Be sure the burners and/or oven in your electric stove are turned off if you are still waiting for power restoration at your home.
  • Never use a kerosene heater in your home.
  • Propane:  As many CT consumers are using more propane while running generators, several propane companies are without power and experiencing intermittent phone service.  If you cannot reach your supplier call 888-445-1075 and the Propane Gas Association of New England will assist you in securing propane for your home.
